The Venture Centre Incubator Mall

The Centre for Plastics Development was established as a central clearing house for plastics related information and to house a facility specializing in training, technical support and specialized knowledge of raw materials, production processes and markets.

The CPD in located in The Venture Centre, an industrial incubator mall and business centre located in Pasadena, Newfoundland.

The plastics industry presents specific opportunities for Newfoundland & Labrador, especially for specialty, niche products with both domestic and export potential. In this respect The Venture Centre established the plastics sector as a key priority in its diversification strategy consistent with provincial government priorities.

Plastics Symposium a Success

On June 2-3, 2008 the 7th Annual Plastics Symposium was hosted at The Fisherman’s Landing Inn in Rocky Harbour by The Centre for Plastics Development (The Venture Centre) in co-operation with the Canadian Plastics Sector Council. Approximately 50 delegates were in attendance and the combination of high profile guest speakers with a number of social networking events made for the most successful symposium ever.

The theme “Skills & People = A Successful Future”, focusing on Human Resources resulted in an array of presentations that included:
• State of the Plastics Industry in Canada by Bill Empey; Prism Economics & Analysis.
• Recruiting & Retaining Employees in a Tight Market by Mike Bennett; Engage Human Resources Solutions Inc.
• Sandra Starr; IMBC Blowmolding, presented a Virtual Human Resources Dept. presentation on behalf of the Canadian Plastics Sector Council.
• An Industry Panel consisting of Joanne Rivard; Ipex Inc., Murray Thomas; Winpak Ltd., Wayne Penney; Human Resources Labour & Employment NL, Richard Wardle; Mines & Energy NL and Leslie Galway; Workplace Health Safety Compensation Commission discussed Future Supply & Demand Issues. Read more...
